There’s a moment in every engagement ring we create when the metal dust settles, the final polish catches the light, and we see it, the quiet beginning of someone’s future.
This is what a day in the SPJ studio looks like, from bench to finger, shaping a story into something you can hold.
The First Sketch Comes to Life
Every bespoke ring begins long before any gold is heated.
It starts with a feeling, a memory, a colour, a story shared during a consultation. By the time the design reaches the bench, it already carries someone’s intention.
In the cool, quiet light of the morning, the first task is reviewing the design: the proportions, the chosen stone, the balance of the setting. At this stage, we aren’t just looking at a ring, but at how it will feel on a hand.
Comfort. Longevity. Meaning - built in from the start.
Metal Meets Movement
Gold begins as a small bar or sheet, but once the jeweller takes their torch to it, everything changes.
The metal is heated, softened, shaped, curved, rolled, and coaxed into life. It’s a dance - intense, precise, and impossibly delicate. Every bend matters. Every millimetre counts. This is where our signature forms begin to appear: the Luna curve, the Alba taper, the soft lift of a bezel, the perfect seat for the centre stone.
Nothing is rushed. Nothing is accidental.
Setting the Stone
Once the structure is ready, the centre stone finally meets its home. This is the quietest moment in the studio and the most focused. The stone is placed, tested, checked from every angle, adjusted, secured, and checked again.
Gemstones are never identical, and the setting must honour their shape and character. A teal sapphire with mood and depth. A salt and pepper diamond with galaxies inside. A brilliant diamond that throws light like water. The setting process is where personality becomes permanence.
The Final Polish
The final polish is more than shine, it’s the moment the ring becomes whole.
Buffing wheels smooth the surface, refine the edges, and bring everything to life. The stone brightens. The gold glows. The details speak. This is when we see the story that began weeks earlier fully formed, ready to be worn, loved, and lived in.
Boxing the Beginning
Before the ring is placed into its box, there’s always a pause. A last check. A final inspection. A moment to honour the work. Because an engagement ring is never just an object. It’s a ritual. A vessel for meaning. A future heirloom that starts here, with these hands and this table.
From our studio to yours, this is how a story becomes a ring.
